Police arraign housewife for calling her neighbour ‘an old cargo’

The Police in Lagos, on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old housewife, Grace Innocent, for calling her neighbour an old cargo.

The defendant, who appeared before Magistrate Taiwo Akanni, of the Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, was charged with breach of peace.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 1, at No. 40, Yusuf Street, Alagbado, Lagos.

“Innocent had an argument with her neighbour, one Miss Joy Eze, during which she rained abuses on her and called her an old cargo.’’

According to him, other occupants of the house pleaded with the defendant to stop, but she refused and this made the complainant to report the matter to the police.

Ahonle said the offence contravened Section 123 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against her.

In her ruling, Magistrate Akanni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till April 10, for mention. (NAN)
