Jonathan’s visit to Niger not for 2015 campaign – Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has stated that President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to some states and traditional rulers recently was not for the purpose of 2015 campaign.

Aliyu, disclosed this when he received the head of the European Union in Nigeria yesterday in Minna, the state capital.

On the president’s scheduled visit to Minna, Aliyu said the trip was not political but an official one.

“President Jonathan is not coming to Niger State to declare his intention for 2015 elections, neither is he coming to the state to campaign. If he is campaigning, he will announce it, he said.

“The president is coming to Niger State for a solidarity and unity rally for the North-central.”

The governor said the rally was necessary to show that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still united despite its problems.

“Some people think that they have wounded us by defecting from the party, but I am glad to tell you today that we (PDP) are stronger, better, more democratic and transparent,” he said.

According to him, the party will win the 2015 general election, adding that the new leadership had ensured that there is transparency and rule of law in the party.

“We know where we are heading to, we do not have any major problem anymore. Everything that is happening now is open to everyone; everything is now transparent. We are now stronger and better,” he said.

The PDP North-central zonal rally would hold on Saturday. The President, National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, governors and other chieftains are expected to attend.
