Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. On a controversial note, Nigerian lawmakers were yesterday divided along party lines over the suspension of the Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from office by President Goodluck Jonathan. The President had already sent the name of Sanusi’s replacement to the lawmakers, but there was chaos in both the Senate and the House Representatives when the PDP lawmakers tried to justify Jonathan’s action.

2. Ahead of the proposed National Conference, Yoruba leaders have pushed for the adoption of parliamentary system of government during the conference. The leaders who met in Lagos yesterday under the leadership of Dr. Tunji Braithwaite also said that the outcome of the National Conference would not be accepted if it fails to go through a referendum.

3. Equally on the headline is the latest video message from the Boko Haram terrorists to Nigeria and the world, with the threat to target some highly placed individuals including , President Goodluck Jonathan, Ban ki-Moon, Benjamin Netanyahu, Queen Elizabeth, General Babangida, Kwankwaso, Shekarau, Kashim Shettima, Buhari, and a host of others. The group in the message is threatening to attack the Niger-Delta region and its oil deposit as well as leaders of the Niger-Delta militants. The group has further threatened to eliminate anyone in support of democracy or western education.

4. The Federal Government yesterday reiterated its commitment to hit the already set target of 40,000MW of electricity in 2020. It said with the expectation of more capacities from Mambilla, Zungeru large hydros, grid power from solar, wind and coal-to-power initiative, its dream of hitting the set target was possible. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Amb. Godknows Igali disclosed this yesterday while speaking to a team of permanent secretaries who visited the Ministry.

5. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has stated that the suspension of Malam Sanusi Lamido as Central Bank Governor will not adversely affect the nation’s economy. Even though the Minister admitted some form of fluctuation in the nation’s currency, she said government was on top of its game to ensure macro-economic stability.

6. Daughter of former Lagos State Governor and the state’s market leader, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has denied the allegation that she was demanding for the All Progressives Congress membership card and money from traders as a condition to reopen the Abibatu Mogaji Model Market in Lagos. This was contained in a statement issued by her media Gboyega Akosile on Thursday.

7. President Goodluck Jonathan had on Thursday, met with top NNPC officials including the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance over the alleged missing $20bn crude oil sales proceeds. The President met with the officials in the Presidential Villa.

8. President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, appointment Farouk Ahmed as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
Ahmed is to take over from Reginald Stanley, who has already spent 35 years in service.

9. Alhaji Kyari Ibn El Kanemi, the Emir of Bama in Borno state yesterday, appealed to the Federal government to find a lasting solution to the incessant Boko Haram attacks in Borno State and other parts of the North. He has appealed to the government to properly equip the military so it can live up to its task.

10. Finally, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has lambasted President Goodluck Jonathan over the suspension of Malam Sanusi Lamido as the nation’s Central Bank Governor. The Party said that Jonathan’s action clearly showed that he was ready to sacrifice the nation’s institution just for his personal ambition.
