EEDC to procure 2,000 transformers, 50 operational vehicles for district units

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has disclosed of its plan to procure and distribute 2,000 electric transformers and 50 operational vehicles to boost performance.

The MD/CEO of the company, Mr Robert Dickerman, disclosed this in Nsukka on Tuesday during his familazation visit to Nsukka District Business Unit.

He said the aim was to improve electricity supply and logistics for district units under EEDC.

“The company has concluded arrangement to procure and distribute to business units within the zone 2,000 electricity transformers and fifty operational vehicles to enable field staff do their work better.

“We are aware that some of our customers are not happy because of poor service, our main concern is to improve and make our customers happy.

“All customers who paid for the pre-paid meters will soon get it”, he assured.

He tasked staff of the company on integrity, quality customer service and performance, which he said would improve service delivery as well as restore the trust of customers.

According to him, “Staff should strive to give good customer service so that they will be happy to continue to patronize the company.

“As part of good customer care, the company will soon stop bill estimation that has made many customers to complain of outrageous billing.

“Promotion of staff will be based on performance and merit”.

The managing director said meter by-pass was currently a problem facing pre-paid metering system, stressing that some people use it to steal electricity.

“I want consumers to remember that metre by-passing is a criminal offence punishable by law. The company is developing technology to tackle metre by-passing”, he said.

In a remark, the Nsukka District Business manager Mr Oyedipo Waleola said that the district had about 17, 000 active customer population made up of 85 percent rural and 15 percent urban.

“The service centers in Nsukka are eight with Nsukka as main office. Nsukka business unit was created on March 4, 2012″, he said.

According to Waleola, Nsukka business unit has two sources of supply, Orji River Transmission sub station and Nkalagu Transmission sub station.

He described staff of Nsukka unit as hardworking but listed inadequate operational vehicles, lack of maintenance materials, poor office working environment as well as lack of internet facilities as some problems facing the unit.
