It said the account was being operated by an unscrupulous element, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

A statement issued on Monday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye reads: “It has come to the notice of the Nigerian Army that a certain dubious individual whose real identity has not yet been determined has created a Facebook account purported to belong to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General KTJ Minimah.

“The likely intention of this dubious individual could be to embarrass the COAS and/or defraud unsuspecting members of the public.”

“In view of the above, the Directorate of Army Public Relations wishes to state categorically that the Chief of Army Staff does not own a Facebook account.

“Therefore, members of the public are advised to disregard any information emanating from the fake Facebook account,” the spokesman added.
