APC can’t recall me – Ajibola

Sen. Simeon Ajibola (PDP-Kwara) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot recall him from the Senate.

Ajibola, who represents Kwara South Senatorial District, said this on Tuesday in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The lawmaker, who described the move to recall him as “laughable,’’ said the APC had no moral or legal right to commence the process of his recall.

NAN reports that members of the APC in Kwara South Senatorial District of Kwara had on Jan. 16 said the party had commenced the process of recalling the senator.

The APC in a statement signed by a party official, Yemi Afolayan, said Ajibola was being recalled for poor representation of the district.

Ajibola, however, said he was duly elected into the senate on the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011 and not under APC.

“If I should be recalled at all, it is the PDP under which I got to the senate that can commence such a move,” the senator added.

He said APC was not even in existence when he was elected as a senator to represent Kwara South.

Ajibola said only the people of his constituency could recall him, adding that they had not done so.

He further said that as a senator, he had the right to decide what party to belong to and had resolved to remain in PDP.

Ajibola said that those behind the purported recall process were the disgruntled members of PDP who were now in APC.

He added that many people were ignorant about the process of recall as enshrined in the Electoral Act. (NAN)
