7.45pm: Anambra Election: Voters blame INEC over lapses as voting ends

7.30pm: Anambra Decides: Tony Nwoye, PDP candidate could not find his name on the voters’ register

7:15pm: Counting is in progress in all the polling units across the state.

The PDP and the APGA are said to be trailing neck-to-neck.

However, there is anxiety among all the supporters of the major contenders in the election.

5:50pm: Following the late arrival of voting materials and the inability of most people in the Idemili area to find their names on the voters’ register, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Chris Ngige has threatened to reject the result of the election in the area.

Ngige, who was at his polling unit in Alor Idemili South to vote, said that he would not accept the result of the election as it was obviously a ploy to stop him in his stronghold.

Voting materials had arrived at about 1 pm, amidst heavy protest by Ngige’s supporters, some of whom called for extension of the voting period to make up for the late arrival of the materials.

It would be recalled that Ngige had earlier passed a vote of no confidence on Prof Chukwemeka Onukogu as the Resident Electoral Commissioner, saying that the REC is heavily compromised, and tends to favour the APGA candidate.

2.17pm: Chief Godwin Ezeemo, the candidate of the Peoples Progressive Alliance, PPA, in the Anambra Governorship Election has frowned at the late arrival of materials in some parts of the state.

Ezeemo, who was accredited around 10.50 a.m., stated that election materials arrived very late in his ward at Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area.

Speaking to News Agency of Nigeria, he urged INEC to live up to its responsibility and ensure a free and fair election in the state.

Similarly, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah of Labour Party, LP, who also complained about the late arrival of materials, said he was accredited by 10.30 a.m. after waiting for about two hours.

Ubah called on INEC to ensure a hitch-free election in the state in the interest of peace.

Meanwhile, the electoral officer at Umuchu, urged the voters to be patient, assuring them that efforts were being made to rectify the problem.

12.48pm: The INEC has assured that election in Idemili North and South will be conclusively conducted, with time extension allowed as may be necessary.

This followed reports of late arrival of materials in these areas.

12.24pm: Voting materials are yet to arrive at most polling units in Idemili North and South.

A spokesperson for Chris Ngige campaign organisation, Okelo Madukaife, who spoke to DailyPost described it as sabotage.

Okelo lamented that accreditation would end soon, yet there is no sign of materials.

12.22pm: The APGA candidate, Willy Obiano has shortly after his accreditation, dispelled rumour of his disqualification. He urged his supporters to ignore the rumour and cast their votes for the APGA.
