A middle age woman, name withheld, has abandoned three of her children near the CRARN Children Centre, Eket. The children who were in good health, apart from minor injuries and scars of old wounds inflicted on them as a result of intermittent torture and wild exorcisms performed in churches, said their mother brought them to a nearby market, adjacent to the centre and ran away with a bike man who brought them there.

Our correspondent was told that the woman dumped the children near a shop along the road where she entered, pretending to be buying new cloths and food for the kids.

Meanwhile, Police in Eket have vowed to arrest and prosecute the runaway mother for abandoning her three kids along the road, more than 100 kilometres away from her home. A Police Deputy chief in Eket who did not want his name in print made the assertion while receiving members of the Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network, CRARN in Eket Police Divisional Headquarters. The members were led by Mr Emmanuel Okon, the CRARN Director of Administration and Head of Operations, HAPSTA, Eket.

The woman who reportedly hailed from Udesi in Mbo Local Government of Akwa Ibom State was still at large as at press time.
