Ebonyi traders partner NAFDAC on war against fake products

Traders’ Associations in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State have set up a task force to combat the sale of fake, illicit and unwholesome drugs, foods and chemicals in all the markets in the state.

The task force was set up in Abakiliki during a grassroot public enlightenment programme organized by the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

Speaking while inaugurating the task force, the head of the NAFDAC in the state, Mr. Richard Anichukwu stated that the enlightenment programe had educated the traders on how to identify which drug or food was genuine or fake.

He noted that NAFDAC had set up the internal task force to monitor those traders that deal on fake and unwholesome drugs and foods in the market.

According to him, the effort would go a long way in reducing fake drugs and unwholesome foods in the markets and save the consumers’ lives.

“NAFDAC has really done well to safeguard the health of Nigerians and we would not relent”, he said.

Also speaking, the chairman, Abakiliki Main Market Traders’ Association, AMMTA, Mr. Emeka Nwome said the internal mechanism was to assist the regulatory agency in the war against unwholesome drugs and foods in the markets.

Nwoye also explained that the traders were now in a better position to appreciate NAFDAC’s efforts to ensure healthy life for Nigerians.

He stated that any food or drug identified by our task force would be reported to the agency for urgent action to help them execute their duties efficiently.
