HANDOVER OF SHARE CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES TO NEW CORE OWNERS OF PHCN SUCCESSOR COMPANIES IN ABUJA2[dropcap]…[/dropcap]Nigeria’s minister of power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has assured that the Federal Government will settle all outstanding severance allowance owed PHCN staff before the end of October 2013.

The minister stated this in Nsukka Enugu State on Sunday while speaking to journalists after attending the thanksgiving service of Nsukka Anglican diocese to mark the church’s 2013 synod.

He stressed that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan had invested much in the power sector and was committed to ensuring that Nigeria enjoyed steady power supply.

Nebo hinted that government was working round the clock to ensure that all authenticated PHCN staff received their severance allowance, so as to end any form of protest from those involved.

According to him, “government is working hard to ensure that all staff of PHCN are settled before the end of October.

“For now, what government has given companies that acquired PCNC are license and share certificate. The physical hand-over of PHCN will take place in some weeks to come.

“By God’s special grace, by the next six months, there will be double in the country’s generation capacity and by the end of 2014 the amount of mega watts generated will be fully transmitted.

“I must tell Nigerians that there are better days ahead as the country will witness great improvement in power sector”.

In a speech earlier during the church service, the Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, urged Nigerians to always support those in authority so as to move the country to the next level.

Okoh, represented by Bishop David Onuoha, secretary of Anglican Bishops of Nigeria, said “we have to partner with our leaders in prayer to enable them succeed”.

He commended Bishop Aloysius Agbo of Nsukka Diocese, for his spiritual commitment, which had resulted in rapid growth of the diocese.

“I am satisfied on the rapid grown of Nsukka diocese because of able spiritual leadership of Agbo”, he said.

Bishop Agbo had in his presidential charge said that the theme of the synod “Partnership With God” was chosen because nobody would succeed in life without partnering with God.

The Bishop urged politicians in Nsukka zone to unite, noting that it would be impossible for the zone to produce a governor for Enugu State in 2015 without speaking with one voice

“The present situation whereby every politician in Nsukka senatorial zone wants to contest for governorship, because Enugu State PDP had zoned its governorship candidate in 2015 to Nsukka was a dangerous trend.

“Majority of politicians in Nsukka want to be governor of Enugu State in 2015, all of them are claiming to be David of our time. It is like some Nsukka politicians are being used to play spoiler game for the zone”, he observed.

The bishop advised leaders in the zone to be united so as to bring a consensus candidate before 2015 since everybody would not be governor at the same time.

He said, “A person to be selected as consensus candidate must be one that lives life of service, humility, empathy, devoid of greed and above all one who lives a godly life”.

Agbo urged state and federal government to call Fulani cattle herdsmen in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area to order, describing incessant killing, raping, of residents of Nrobo, Abbi and Ugbene as well as destroying their farmlands as worrisome.

“Government should build cattle ranches for them than allowing them to be destroying farmlands that are source of livelihood of the people.

“These herdsmen should not be allowed to continue acting as if they are above the law by killing, intimidating and oppressing their host communities”, he stressed.
