Gunmen kill 160 people, abduct 10 women in Zamfara state

Governor Abdulazez Yari of Zamfara State had disclosed on Monday in Gusau, the state capital that about 160 people were killed and 10 married women abducted in different villages of the state in the last three months by some unidentified gunmen.

The disclosure came when Yari was addressing members of the state House of Assembly on security related matters in the state.

He further divulged that the development had resulted into serious distrust for the state government, especially by residents of the affected villages and communities.

The governor said the gunmen perpetrating the acts had stolen over 6,000 cows and 4,000 sheep since they started their operation in the state.

While appealing to the federal government for the deployment of security men to the state, he affirmed that the state was handicapped regarding adequate protection of lives and property.

The governor said the state had tried its best with regard to security, calling on the federal government to rise up to the challenge.

The Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikijin, while assuring the governor of the lawmakers’ support said, “We will consult with other State Houses of Assembly and the National Assembly to ensure justice, equity and fair play in the country.”
