Boko Haram: Governor Shettima commiserates with Konduga people over attacks

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has commiserated with the people of Konduga Local Government Area of the state over Sunday’s attack by Boko Haram sect, which left no less than 52 persons, including women and children dead, and over 50 houses destroyed.

Shettima, who was on Konduga on Tuesday, assured the people of government’s support, adding that more troops would be deployed to the area to give support to those on ground.

Shettima who was saddened over the situation in Konduga pledged the sum of N250, 000 to persons that lost their loved, whereas those whose houses were burnt would be given money within the range of N400, 000 to N150,000.

Residents, particularly the youth volunteer group, popularly called Civilian JTF, who were not happy with the caretaker chairman of the local government, Alhaji Abba Abbari told governor Shettima that he was not always around when his people needed him.

According to them, they had asked the chairman on several occasions to provide logistics to the volunteer group, regretting that instead, the council boss allegedly took his family out of the local government to a safe place, leaving other residents under the horror and mercy of Boko Haram.

The volunteer youths also told the governor that, they prefered more soldiers to police because during the attack on Sunday most of the policemen ran away living only the soldiers and the youths to engage the Boko Haram fighters.
