Patience Jonathan’s mother reportedly dead

Reports say that mother of Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan is feared dead.

Although a presidency source confirmed the death to DailyPost, he was not certain whether the victim is the First Lady’s mother.

Confirming the incident, he said “Yes. But I’m not sure the woman in question is her biological mother”.
The aged woman was said to have been involved in a fatal motor accident at Elele along the widely criticized East-West road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident occurred.

Unconfirmed report indicated that her corpse was taken to Kpaiyama Mortuary by a team of policemen, including the member representing Ogu Bolo Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Evans Bipi, who is a relative to the deceased.

Though, the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission in the state could not confirm the incident as at the time of filling this report, an aide to Bipi said the First Lady’s mother died in the road accident, which occurred at about 4pm.

Bipi’s aide disclosed that: “she was involved in an accident and she died. Her body has been taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the mortuary”.

Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer based in Port Harcourt, Ken Atswuete said the unfortunate incident is a vindication of Governor Amaechi’s age long clamour for the completion of the East-west road.

According to him, “The East-West road construction has been an issue. It is a fact that Orubebe, the Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs saddled with the responsibility has failed woefully. It is one of which the Federal Government has failed woefully.

“Now an important life has been lost. Some people come to Port Harcourt and fly from the airport by helicopter because they know that the road is bad.

“Unfortunately, they forget that their family members will ply that road. Now it has taken the life of one of their family members”.

He added that Mr. Godsday Orubebe should be held responsible for any life lost on that road, stressing “how many Nigerians have lost their lives on that road? How many more Nigerians will lose their lives on that road? You see that the President has failed the Niger-Delta over the government’s inability to complete the construction of the East-West road.

“The road from Port Harcourt to Owerri was constructed by the Rivers state Government. We think that the Federal Government should be awakened to its responsibility. Road is one of them. More accidents should be averted.

“The construction of the East-West road should be completetd immediately. Orubebe should be held responsible for these deaths.”
