Rivers State Police Chief clarifies comments, calls Governor Amaechi his Brother

The Rivers state Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu has cleared the air of controversy on the supposed misunderstanding. Between him and the Executive Governor of Rivers state, Chibuike Amaechi.

Mbu has declared that his relationship with Amaechi is still very cordial, even as he stressed that he has always maintained a good working relationship with the Governor.

The Commissioner divulged this during a chat with pressmen at the Police headquarters in Port Harcourt. He accused journalist of exaggerating every comment he makes.

According to him, “Forget about what you press are writing about the Governor and myself. The Governor is my friend, he’s my brother, he’s my boss and we are cordial. It is you, the press that are orchestrating and blowing things out of proportion. We are in very good terms. There is no problem”.

On the issue of crime rate in the state, Mbu said, officers of his command have been putting their best to ensure reduction of crime in the state.

He stated that every state has its peculiar problems and Rivers state is not an exception. He also said he made waves in Oyo state and everyone close to him knows that he does not compromise in terms of crime.

“As far as I am concerned, my officers and I are trying. I can beat my chest and say we are trying. We have gone through so many gun battles here, and we defeated them. The crime rate in Rivers state since I took over has gone  down drastically, “he said.

Relatively, the police Command had displayed some of the arms recovered from criminals, to include AK 47 and AK 49 rifles, dane guns, bullets, GPMGs, stolen vehicles and more. They also said they had arrested over 62 kidnappers and recovered about 6.8million naira from them.
