Borno Enviromental Vanguard seeks incorporation into civil service

Bornu State Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Mustapha Hassan Aminami has commended the selfless effort of the state Environmental Vanguard, saying that government would look into ways of incorporating them into the civil service as a means of encouraging their relentless and selfless service to the state.

Alhaji Hassan Aminami stated this in a brief interview with newsmen on Monday in Maiduguri. He spoke on the earlier call made by members of the environmental vanguard on the need for government to consider an upward salary review and to possibly incorporate them into the state civil service.

The Commissioner said, the formation of the environmental vanguard was informed by the need to empower citizens by giving them the desired attention and direction that could make them useful to the society where they live.

He said, his Ministry would look into their request and will discuss further with government towards ensuring that they get prompt payment as well as making them full time civil servants.

Earlier, Mala Bukar a staff of the Borno Environmental Vanguard told our correspondent that while they are appreciative of government for the opportunity it had created for them, they are also pleading that government considers incorporating them into the civil service proper so they can earn good salary and make plans for their future.

Mala said, “Governor Kashim Shettima is a Governor who understands our problem in Borno and he promised to give us something to do, which he indeed has fulfilled, never the less, someone like me, I would like to further his education but cannot do that because this job is so demanding. I know that if given the opportunity to be in the civil service, I can go to school while working and earn other certificates aside my secondary school result and be somebody in the society.

He said there were many others like him working hard under the Environmental Vanguard to ensure clean environment in the state, who also desire better opportunities and pray that government will consider adding value to them by placing them on proper salary scale as full time civil servants so they can have the opportunity of adding value to their lives.

“We are going to remain eternally grateful to Governor Kashim for everything he is doing, not only to us but to Borno state. We believe that if not for the crises in the state, the Governor would have achieved more than he is already doing.” he said
