Two teenagers remanded in prison for raping 15-year-old girl

For allegedly luring a 15 year old girl to an uncompleted building where she was severely raped, two boys aged between 15 and 16 were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Vincent Gwahembaa of Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nassarawa state.

Narrating to the honourable court how the incident happened, the police prosecutor, Nasir Shuaibu, maintained that the case was first brought to their Division in Mararaba, on Dec.11, 2012.

He also said that the two teenagers alongside three others in their gang led the innocent girl to an uncompleted building which doubles as their hideout and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, an offence which contravened Section 97 and Section 283 of the Penal Code.

However, when the charge sheet was read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.

Subsequently, the counsel to the defendant, Charles Acholor, prayed the court to grant his clients bail since they are still presumed innocent.

The presiding judge, Vincent Gwahemba ignored his request for bail stressing that although the boys are still teenagers, rape was not a minor case to be easily overlooked.

Thus, he ordered that the two accused persons be taken back to Keffi Prison. The case was adjourned to Jan.14, 2013 for further hearing.
