Godfrey Chitalu scored more than Messi in a calender year

Godfrey “UCAR” Chitalu was a Zambian footballer who holds a record Lionel Messi will never have. Chitalu scored and outrageous 107 goals in all competitions in a single season- a record that is still uninterrupted. Why is Godfrey Chitalu’s record never recognised? One million dollar question.

Godfrey “UCAR” Chitalu (October 22, 1947 – April 27, 1993) was a Zambian footballer who is regarded as the greatest Zambian player ever and holds the national team goal-scoring record. Nicknamed ‘Ucar’, Chitalu was a forceful and often temperamental target man who was Zambian footballer of the year a record five times and in 1972 rewrote the record books by scoring 107 goals in all competitions in a single season.

Upon retirement, Chitalu took to coaching and was in charge of the Zambia national team when the entire squad perished in a plane crash off the coast of Gabon on April 27, 1993.

    FIFA must recognize this record and put it into their Books

    only 76 of those goals were official so it doesn’t count. Pele also scored 110 goals in 1961 but only 62 of those goals were official. If we were counting friendlies Messi would be in the 90s right now.

    What do you by he only scored 76 goals in “official” games?

    Are not league, cup game and international games official?

    Zambia had four cup competitions that time in addition to the national league
    and Chitalu won the Top Scorers award fairly.

    FIFA did recognize him. They gave him a ball written “FIFA 107 goals in one season”. His jersey number was changed to “107″. FIFA just choose who recognize and they other problem is my country Zambia is poor with record keeping hence its difficult to prove this claim.

    Pele scored 127 goals for Santos in 1959, 110 in 1961 and 101 goals in 1965…..some of these goals were from non sanctioned matches (friendly matches)

    So this being the case, let Messi’s record be written in the FIFA records as having broken the European record, and the thus the world record holder be Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu!!! Period. The records are there to show. FIFA just chose who to recognize and who not to.

    hahha, why Today? where were these records not known before? This is simply foolishness to say there were players after Mesi took the record from Muler. These goals were not officials!!!!!!!!!!!
