UEFA president, Michel Platini, has said that Lionel Messi will be a deserved winner, if he clinches the 2012 Ballon d’Or. If the Argentine wins it, he will break Platini’s record of winning the prize for three straight years.

But the former France international, says if there is anyone to break his record, it will be the Barcelona forward.

“Records are there to be beaten. If he wins it again, it’s because he deserves it,” Platini told Ouest-France.

“He’s still only 25 years old and has every opportunity to leave his mark for all eternity.”

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta, were on Thursday announced as the three finalists for the award.
