“Is it not the height of disrespect and insensitivity?” – M.I reacts to video Rick Ross shot in Lagos

Chocolate City rapper, MI Abaga, has taken to his personal website, to make his opinions known about the Nigerian version of ‘Hold me back’, which Rick Ross shot in some areas of Lagos.

MI was evidently not happy, as his write up showed, suggesting that the American rapper did not portray the country in good light. In his opinion, nobody can tell the Nigerian story, more than the inhabitants of the nation.

“Does it make you angry? Does it rile you to see your country portrayed as poor and suffering and full of struggle?” he asked rhetorically. “It burns you, does it not? To have some foreigner- who knows nothing of your history and pain, of the stories that flow within your blood- to have this foreigner come in and tell your story? Is it not the height of disrespect and insensitivity?

“Does it not chafe against the thick skin you have grown to cover your other wounds? Does it not make you angry? We should wax sanctimonious about national pride being slighted. We should vent our displeasure online. We should occupy something.

“Because God forbid the truth ever be told about what things really are. God forbid a stranger reminds us about those things we choose to ignore every day. God forbid we ever face the truth about ourselves. God forbid we do not go on the internet and rail about how our country is being cast in bad light. God forbid we do not talk about how there is a small minority which lives better than portrayed. God forbid we do not ignore truth one more time. God forbid we don’t.”

    Y’all should read that article again, the heading doesn’t do justice to what MI is talking about. The journalist who made up that Heading is an illiterate! read the last paragraph of this article and you will see where MI’s opinion lies in this case!!!!

    80percent of nigerian artist who can afford to shoot an expensive video would rather go to southafrica so they can make an impression. For how long do you want to hide the cancer that eats up ur country? Ehn? You people are to stupid and too daft to tell your own story so someone always has to to come from outside to tell it for you. I think that video should remind you of how much fighting is left, the truth they say is bitter so I understand why yall got a sour puss face about this! Watch that video and think about the state of the nation and stop yapping like starved puppies! Its quite funny that rick ross of all rappers had to paint the picture perfect! He just did you a favour and that’s telling the world that our leaders done screwed us over! You people are not ready to fight, how many of you will take a bullet for your country? Anybody?     This is THE first time is sounding so naïve.Did he see THE first version of this video shot IN America???-I don’t think he did.THE video also portrayed a ghetto right there IN America.If america as advanced as they are,HAVE ghettos as dirty as our own nigeria to show on a video,I don’t see any thing bad IN it.If our artists are proud of our dear country,why do they still go abroad to shoot videos.Why not do it IN YOUR country & show THE world THE GOOD side of YOUR country.Fiascos.
