528 adults enroll for literacy, vocational skills in Kogi State

528 illiterate adults enrolled for various literacy and vocational skills acqusition programme, under the Kogi Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education (AANFE) in the 2011/2012 session.

Mallam Danladi Isyaka, Area Officer for Lokoja zone, told Dailypost in Lokoja, that enrolment in the centre was on the decline, compared to previous years. He said that the Lokoja centre had programmes in Basic Literacy, Post-literacy, vocational skills unit, Adult Junior Secondary School (JSS I-III) and a computer centre and used to have over 1,000 learners in a session.

He also disclosed women constitute the highest number of those who enroll into the various programmes at the centre.

“Of the total enrolment figure, 362 women registered while the men were only 166,” the Area Officer said, Speaking further, the coordinator further added that even in performance, women were performing better, and wondered why illiterate men refused to come for the programme.

He however lamented the infrastructural decay facing the centre, which was built and donated to the state government in 1991 by the European Economic Community (EEC).
