NUC Suspends Licences of 7 private Universities

The National Universities Commission has on Wednesday suspended the operational licenses of seven private universities for allegedly not meeting up to its set targets on school facilities and academic programmes as established by the NUC.

The suspended universities are Lead City, Caritas, Joseph Ayo Babalola, Tansian, Madonna, Achievers and Obong.

Confirming this development to news men,  Mallam Ibrahim Yakassai, The Director of Press and Public Relations of NUC said in a telephone conversation on Wednesday night that the suspension of the licenses of the affected schools was imperative in order to continually work on the current standard of Nigerian Universities.

A top NUC official who had pleaded anonymity had affirmed that the decision of the NUC became unavoidably important considering that most of the private Universities have failed to lived up to the guidelines stipulated by the NUC in the running of Universities in Nigeria.

“The operators of the universities affected know their offences because so many times, we have informed them about their failings but they did not take necessary steps to address their shortcomings. Anyway, It’s just a suspension and it will be lifted as soon as they do the correct things,” the sourced said.

    Infact they should be given a specific time to get the necessary things done. The owners of theses schools have what it takes to do what they are supposed to do.

    I believe that the grudges between the owner of leadcity and NUC director still boils. Someone should try and settle the rift. Cos the grasses under are sufferring.
    This guy should just let peace reign. I love that school its a school where you learn and have time to do your business and also have time to learn some extra trade for your self. 100 STUDENTS GRADUATES FROM LCU 85 gets job immediately, 10 owns their businesses. the remaining figures do masters with high up cgpa and scholarships. what else is their.also in lead city they give you the opportunity to get certified before graduating if you dont you wont be convocated. you need to submit your certificate. all the people that thinks its a dumping ground. yes it is but whe you hear stories of others you will learn to shappen your life and know your life is right there in your hands. I love LCU my school my alma mata.

    I,m not sure if the powers that set up NUC empowers it to suspend the Licences of university institutions but in Nigeria, anything goes.
    NUC has become a policeman for Private Universities who are not willing to play along. How many Govt Universities are affected.
    People who send their children to private universities are doing so because of the collapse of public universities where you spend
    8 – 10 yrs for a 4-year course because of strikes by ASUU, NASU etc as well as arbitrary change in administrative policies as was the case with UNILAG
    recently. Yet, NUC did not see anything wrong with this. Here is a man who when the name of Unilag was changed arbitrarily told the press that
    the President only need to give instruction and NUC will implement not minding if the decision has any adverse effect on the student and staff. A man whose tenure
    as a VC has nothing to write about now want to monitor other VCs . RIDE ON SIR. HISTORY WILL JUDGE YOUR TENURE

      NUC is not only targeting private universities, they also close some department in public universities that did not meet the requirement. those schools mentioned above did not suppose to be in existence by now because they lack all it takes to be a higher institution. you can take your time and visit either two or three of those school mentioned above. most private universities in this country are only interested in making profit and nothing more.
