We Cannot Trust Jonathan With More Money, El-Rufai Rants On Twitter

By on January 6, 2012

Former Minister of  Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai has been criticizing President Jonathan Government on twitter in the past few hours. Read below and you can follow him on twitter @elrufai  for more .

Nasir El-Rufai - Those giving economic arguments for or against fuel subsidy withdrawal miss the point totally. It is not about economics. It is about TRUST!
Nasir El-Rufai - No Nigerian trusts GEJ’s administration to use any money for the benefit of the people. Funds are for pocketing by govt officials & friends!
Nasir El-Rufai  - The spending pattern & priorities of GEJ since 2010 is evidence of who he cares for and what. Let us look at his budget record from 2010….
Nasir El-Rufai - Between 2010-2011, GEJ has spent N9.557 trillion. N4,427bn in 2010 budget, N645bn supplementary in 2010, N4,485bn in 2011. The results? ZERO
Nasir El-Rufai - Under his watch, we increased our debt stock by about $20bn, ran down excess crude from $6bn to zero, FX reserves from $45bn to $ 30bn…
Nasir El-Rufai - Under GEJ, Dollar exchange rate moved from >N140 to N160 today. Debt stock has doubled to higher than 2005 levels. Interest rates over 20%!
Nasir El-Rufai - And all this is while nearly 10 trillion Naira has been spent on government officials, trips abroad & perquisites/subsidies to politicians!
Nasir El-Rufai - Power supply improvement? Minimal. Jobs created? Zero. Transport Infrastructure? Zero. Agricultural output? Minimal. Private jets? Yes, lots
Nasir El-Rufai - Let us look at the 2012 Budget proposals in some details to see whether GEJ is willing to reduce the high lifestyle of those in power…..
Nasir El-Rufai - We will look at the budgets proposed for three Presidency MDAs – the State House where P & VP work, the Offices of the SGF & Head of Service
Nasir El-Rufai –  The three MDAs intend to spend a total of N27bn as “overheads” for 2012. Nearly N2 bn will be spent traveling with N1.675bn in GEJ’s office!
Nasir El-Rufai - Stationery, refreshment & snacks in the Presidency will consume about N2bn, with N1.6bn spent by GEJ & his VP in 2012. Does that make sense?
Nasir El-Rufai - The President & VP intend to spent about N2.8bn to “maintain” their existing furniture, generators, etc, & N238m for fuel! Is this prudent?
Nasir El-Rufai - Miscellaneous spending by the Villa alone totals N1.7bn for food, honorarium & something called “welfare packages” – another security vote!
Nasir El-Rufai - The SGF & Head of Service have over N2.5bn for these “miscellaneous expenses” including nearly N300m for “welfare” & N270m “security vote”!
Nasir El-Rufai - Why can’t some of these areas of waste be cut to fund capital projects & others that benefit the populace like the fuel subsidy?
Nasir El-Rufai - In the 2012 budget, NASS intends to spend N150bn on itself, the same amount as in 2011 to pay those huge allowances. It has NOT been reduced
Nasir El-Rufai - So we will spend about N320m for every NASS member in 2012, as we did in 2011. Where is the shared sacrifice? Where is accountability?
Nasir El-Rufai - In 2012, FG will spend an average of N2.47m on every federal employee. It spent about N3.2 m on every ex-militant in 2011. What about us?
Nasir El-Rufai - We must resist the N8,000 tax being imposed on every man, woman & child to fund the fuel subsidy & insist that FG cuts its own wastefulness!
Nasir El-Rufai - I will tweet further details of the budget in due course….we must sensitize our NASS members to rise to the occasion & rewrite this budget
Nasir El-Rufai - The issue with GEJ is simply that of trust. He has wasted huge financial resources & put us in debt in the last 20 months. We must be wary!
Nasir El-Rufai - We cannot trust with more money as he will only waste more of it. That is the issue & he can only earn that trust through small steps.

Thankx a million mallam El Rufai for your detailed analysis. I completely agree with you that its only a question of trust. A government that expanded the ministerial lists, each with its accompanying minister of state is indeed very wasteful to say the least!!!!!

My worries are how the money from this subsidies will spent. Since I now know that the state Governors are part og those to manage this fund, just forget it. Nothing good will ever come out of it as these (state Governors )are so corrupt that they will just share this money among their cronies and party men.
However, any one harbouring the impeachment of Jonathan is calling for the dissolution of Nigeria. Is the Vice President to be impeached with him?. All the rougues in the National Assembly going?Within a week of his impeachment, up to three nations will emerged.

The management of this subsidies is the problem and if the C Kolade team will not be supervising this fund, it is just a waste.

Except all the current ruling class goes, nothing good will happen to Nigeria.

Ah Ah Rufai!!….but is it not better as usual, if some few Naira is siphoned to Switzerland and the Likes by the powerful Satanists? Where is Qaddafi today? Where is Mubarak now? And unless the Satanist is powerful than LUCIFER, then you wait and see. —Concerned citizen.

How could you sum up such a brilliant master piece as rants!,I am sorry this paper is not fit to be on the net. I was waiting for you to give your own side of the argument, instead you only summed up someones effort in bettreing your country. Lets hear your own argument so that someone can sum it up for you.mtchew
@Oshiozokhai,this fight is not about the past, its about the future.Ok? the enemy of my enemy is my friend, elrufai is far more better than you and your family summed together,he has the spirit and is equally brave.I will advice you take your judgement to your type and leave us alone to our fight.

We are Ready for sacrifice for the subsidy removal, however leaders are meant to lead by example,so the government should lead by example to sacrifice by reducing their own running cost and then we would gladly follow.

  • Olaidealawode

While I am not suppprting GEJ and removal of fuel subsidy, I believe El-Rufai is talking because he is not in GEJ Camp. It was this same El-Rufai that was paying Female Corpers 1 million naira each during his time.

El Rufai is a typical Nigerian politician. He is attacking. GEJ just because he’s schemed out of the power game. It is easy to see why he can never see anything good about this administration.

Same El Rufai who did things with impuniiry against the common man in abuja pretending to be a friend of the massed now.

Can we go tru what el rufai spent as minister for federal capital territory …

    Key points:

Nasir El-Rufai – Power supply improvement? Minimal. Jobs created? Zero. Transport Infrastructure? Zero. Agricultural output? Minimal. Private jets? Yes, lots

Its obvious that El – Rufai couldn’t deny that Power has improved and recognises the efforts being put in place in the agricultural sector, those are key sectors that will enable Job creation while He failed to mention the efforts put in the rail system by classifying Transport Infrastructure as Zero.

The point is that even a critic like El-Rufai who was removed from office due to heavy criticism recognises the efforts the present govt is making.

Lets not be carried away by the excesses of the govt alone, we should call them to order and ensure that they reduce their excessive spending but we should destroy a govt that is making effort to improve the key Sectors of the Nigerian economy.

I wonder why we keep channelling our anger at the Fuel subsidy removal when we know the only problem we have against that is not that it should be removed but that we don’t trust the govt spending it on what they say they will……Why not think of ways we can make the govt accountable and reduce spending.

Sir El-Rufai is someone I still have respect for despite all the corruption accusations but He should stop being over critical and be more supportive if he really loves this country, why cant he be like Oshiomole, Prof. Pat Utomi, Peterside Atedo, Sanusi, Ngozi Okonjo -Iweala and others that suggest solutions to the challenges of this Nation instead of complaining and creating division by his why thought out crisitism.

El-Rufai we will like to hear you make suggestions on how to improve the other sector you discribe the govts effort as minimal.

Dont tell me the only solution is to destabilised the country or bring down the current administration because you are not in it.

Nigerian has past the stage of being whining babies.we need solutions solutions solutions.

But first make people responsible before talking of making Gov accountable. There is a think line between an accountable leadership leading a corrupt followership.
Corruption will surely chip away any government gay if not tackled. It is the first excess we need to remove from all Nigerians, home or abroad.

      • Couragenigeria

        gain i mean not gay.

  • Courage Nigeria

I am very surprised that Nigerians are protesting the oil subsidy removal, when we were also part of those who watched and cheered the government for three months last year as the senate removed the rights of existence, right of honesty, right of love, right of emotional support (even from family) right of association from the invisible gay and lesbian Nigerians.
What do you think? A government who did that to vulnerable people would do worse to those who stand as a threat to him or her. Good luck Nigeria with Goodluck. He is out with a Good Lock for each of you caught there.

This guy is just an idiot. I believe that if Jonathan takes the right steps to right the wrongs in Nigeria, to fight corruption, this guy (El-Rufai) would be in jail. Where did he get the billions (money) with which he invested in Dubai? The Niger-Delta has been financing the country, paid the national debts from looted funds by the fake armed forces generals we have in Nigeria during the military rule. pay salaries of the states and local councils of the entire country. How much had the people from Niger-Delta looted? Most generals have oil wells and majority of them are not from the Niger-Delta. These guys (looters) financing Boko-Haram want the country to split so that they will not be called to face the law in case of a revolution. President Jonathan must take urgent steps to deal with those that have looted public funds and scammed the country, that if he’s not also involved.

This man should have been in jail if we are not a banana republic. GEJ should welid his stick now or they will frstrate him.

  • Umar

Thank you El Rufai, I am supporting you 100%, keep the good, may Allah protect and give more knowledge.

  • Umarkd2003

El-Rufa’i: Continue with your write, all you have said is nothing but the fact. If you think he is corrupt or something prove it. I believe he has been invited for uncountable times and up-till today they can not prove it.
Dear Sir, we cherish and appreciate your words, keep on with it.
